Poetics of Bamboo

In collaboration with Vicky Achnani and students of AURO University

The workshop was an intense, seven day hands - on undertaking to understand bamboo as a material and the ways in which it can be employed in building architecture through details and fabrication explorations of components coming together in an assembly.

Right from the extraction, to the sourcing, curing, cutting and treatment, the entire structure was designed and constructed in the timeframe. It emphasized on developing ways of working with the material through working prototypes to better understand its inherent properties, as well as sessions of learning from local artisans leading to new explorations of parts coming together in an assembly through set of details.

Furthermore, as the project neared completion, it faced an unexpected tornado, and was able to withstand the turbulent forces, which affirmed the strength of these newly discovered joineries.
