Production and Perception of Spaces Through Cinematic Montage:

A Case Study of the Architecture of the Star Wars Saga

An Architectural Research Thesis

Abstract

Cinematic representational techniques hold great potential to be used as principles and methods to establish various relationships between the viewers/ users and the spaces they occupy.

This thesis is an in-depth study into the potential of cinematic Montage as a means to establish new and creative spatial narratives, to expand the scope of architectural representation beyond the depiction of just its absolute form, function, and structure. It also touches upon how existing architectural built forms are manipulated to add to its inherent spatial narratives, moving beyond the conventional three- dimensional viewing.
