The Ways of The Whitney

A Creative directing and Photography project aimed at capturing the many experiences in, around and of the Whitney Museum that make it the big attraction that it is.

Dissecting the many aspects of what makes spaces and experiences as immersive and appealing as they are to us, the project aims at highlighting and appreciating these elements that come together as a whole to make it an experience.

Tools: Nikon D7500 | NIKKOR 18-300mm 3.5-6.3

To capture the building through the neighboring built form. The reflectivity of the windows coupled with the lower angle leaves a sense of mystery of what might be going on behind the walls.

The black and white removes all other distractions, directing the focus to the profiles and silhouettes of the panels and the materials coming together, and their entire composition.

The rust on the bottom most pipe matches the yellow on the Whitney name plate. The purpose was to capture the natural(birds and the rust) and its interaction with this structure.

To capture the various geometries of the structure, while emphasizing the verticality by shooting from a lower angle. Shadows would’ve emphasized it much better, unfortunately it was shot on a cloudy day.

To show the sharp contrast in both - the materiality, as well as the architectural ornamentation of the neighboring built forms.

To show its connect to the highline, with a focus on the pe- destrain movement in the area. There is only a subtle mention of the highline, enough to relate it back to its structure and the bold logo.

The shadow play can be deceiving, as one might perceive the thickness of these vents a bit more than a slender mental sheet.

The intent was to capture as little of the building and its contrasting surroundings, hinting at the Studio Gang Solar Carve and the opposing Brickwork, through the frame of yet another contrasting environment of the trees and Shrubbery from the Hudson Front.

The intent was to capture the blocky profile of the building while keeping the viewer ambigous to its more elegant base. The attempt was to capture a flock of birds in flight, however it failed to get them in time.

To capture the noisy surrounding of the main road from a rather calmer place, one that is surrounded by trees and other shrubbery to give a sense of the different types of experiences the building opens up to. Here, a part of the building starts revealing itself, with the larger feature of the vertical panels.
